Dietrich, Störger, Breidenbach, Herbert
Our earliest representative from this line is Georg (sometimes spelled Görg) Herbert, born in 1600. In earliest records, during the 1640s, he was listed as a "Gerichtsschöffe", a lay member of the court or a professional juryman. Later he was listed as a "Schultheiß" or village mayor.
Georg Herbert was married at least twice, once to a Margaretha with whom he had a daughter, also called Margaretha, who was born about 1630. After his wife Margaretha died in 1660 Georg married Anna Maria Schmidt in 1663 and had five more children. Georg Herbert died in 1676 at the ripe old age of 76.
Another ancestor from this region is Velten Störger, born in 1610. Velten's surname is spelled both Störger and Störcher in the Groß Zimmern church records, but it's worth noting that orthography was fluid at this time. Either spelling may be correct. A "Storger" was a vagabond or a peddler, so perhaps Velten's surname reflected humble family origins.
Velten Störger, a "Gerichtsverwandter" (the man in charge of judicial affairs of the village) was married at least twice, though the church books fail to list the name of the mother of his seven children. In records where she's listed as a godmother to a child, we can see that her name was Elisabetha, surname unknown.
Elsiabetha died sometime after their last child, Eva, was born in 1654. Velten then married Catharina Göthen, a widow in Groß Zimmern, in 1659. Velten died in 1668 at the age of 58, Catharina in 1672 at the age of 72.
Velten Störger's son Johannes (born 1652 in Groß Zimmern) married Catharina Breidenbach, daughter of Michel Breidenbach and Margaretha Herbert (daughter of the town mayor Georg Herbert), in 1677. Their daughter Anna Catharina Störger was born in 1683. Her marriage to a Dietrich added a new family to our ancestry.
We can trace our Dietrich line to Johannes David Dietrich's father, also called Johannes, and his wife Magdalena, surname unknown. The available records don't tell us who his father was.
To complicate matters, there were three Johannes Dietrichs in the official records at this time, one born in 1648, one in 1652, and one in 1658. The church book clerks refer to our Johannes as "The Elder," while Eva's husband Johannes (born in 1658, the son of a Georg Dietrich) is "The Younger". Further research may reveal whether these two Johannes Dietrichs are related in some way.
Johannes' and Magdalena's son Johannes David was born in Groß Zimmern in 1680. In 1709, Johannes David Dietrich married Anna Catharina Störger (daughter of Johannes Störger and his wife Catharina Breidenbach). In 1737 their daughter Anna Catharina (born in 1718) married Johannes Dressel, son of the butcher Gerg Dressel and his wife Magdalena.
