Daniel's family was on their way to Illinois from Groß-Bieberau in Hesse-Darmstadt when Daniel was born at sea in 1834. The 1850 U.S. federal census for Belleville, Illinois even confirms Daniel's birthplace as "Atlantic Ocean." Daniel grew up with his brothers and sisters in Belleville, St. Clair County where he worked as a cooper, a barrel and cask maker. Daniel never married and died in 1915. Our most recent common ancestor is Peter Schuchmann, born in 1604.
