This photo has deteriorated a bit but it's still recognizeable. Tom's and Marie's parents were Alva MacLaughlan and Marie Jatho MacLaughlan. Alva, of course, was born Alfred Emil Petersen in Chicago in 1894 and changed his name about 1914 when he married Marie Jatho. All the children used the surname MacLaughlan although Tom was baptized as Thomas William Petersen-McLaughlin, the surname being still in flux.
