Phillip Dressel's grocery and delicatessen with a woman and two boys, New Jersey

Year: 1890 • Collection: Dressel

Phillip Dressel was the son of Johann Phillip Dressel of Hesse-Darmstadt and a nephew of Anne Marie Dressel Schuchmann, who lived in Charleston, South Carolina. Phillip followed the path of his cousin Frederick Dressel, a botanist in New Jersey, and settled in Jersey City where he opened a grocery and delicatessen. He married New York native Anna Maria Buchelberger in 1977 and they had five children. This photo appears to show Anna Maria and two of their sons at the storefront in Jersey City.
