Alfred, originally Peter Edlef Petersen, emigrated with his family to Nebraska in 1878 and farmed in Omaha. He was married to Maria (Meriea) Thomsen in Thayer County in 1883. They had four children. Meriea died in 1893 and Alfred raised their four children with the help of his housekeeper, Hannah Anderson. Anne married Luther Davis in 1904 in Omaha and their daughter Sally married Donald Arthur Leu.
