Cameo worn by Hans Petersen in his wedding portrait, Belle Prairie, Nebraska.

Hans wears this cameo on the end of a fob tucked into his wedding suit. It may be a family heirloom. Hans, age 29, and his 16 year old first cousin Catharina Petersen married in Belle Prairie on November 23, 1878, just three weeks after her family had arrived in the U.S. Hans and his parents had been farming in Belle Prairie since 1872 when they emigrated.
