John Michael Jatho was born in 1846 in Illinois but his ancestry goes back to Johann Daniel Jatho (1692-1766) of Dransfeld. John Michael and Emma Kunz had eight children. This portrait shows six of those eight offspring. By 1910 some family members had moved westward to Southern California.
