Carl August and Emilie were married in June 1876 in Cuming, Nebraska. August, the son of Johann Wilhelm Friedrich Breetzke and Dorothee Marie Wilhelmine Köhler, was Walter Breetzke's uncle. This is probably a post-wedding photo, with Emilie displaying her wedding ring. Some of the Breetzke clan settled in Nebraska and some in Chicago.
