  • Lewisia usually grows wild in Washington state and Oregon, but it's been doing nicely in Los Angeles this season.
  • 'Happy Days' is a new variety of azalea that does well even in partial sun and has pink to amethyst blossoms.
  • I always try to have some lobelia planted somewhere in the garden. These are in a hanging backet in front.
  • A burgundy red cymbidium orchid has just opened in the front garden, wreathed by jasmine.
  • This is my first experience growing sea pinks. I planted some in the front garden alongside the dry stream bed with fescue grass and pink erodium.
  • Despite the savage over-pruning by clueless landscapers, this shrub rose, a striped variety called 'Rockin' Robin,' is sprouting new red growth.

Want to explore gardening?

If you're already an ardent gardener, or if you want to become one, you may enjoy some of the resources listed in the links at right.

If you're new to the hobby, just plunge right in and start with something simple. Evaluate your space and climate and decide what's works for you. Ornamental or practical or both, a garden doesn't need to be complex. Remember: it takes real work to kill a plant. Don't work too hard.
