Petersen emigration

There are so many Petersen emigrations that it seemed sensible to organize them in the following table. Here you'll be able to see the names of our ancestors who did or didn't emigrate, details of their excursion if they came to America, a copy of their passenger manifest if available or other relevant documents, and a section called details. Mouse over the Details in the table below to see further information about each person.

This is an active research project. Check back for more information, which we'll add to the table as soon as it's been verified.

Elise Christina Momsen 1822 Süd-Klixbull - ?	Husband P. H. Petersen and children	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg ship manifest	Details Peter Hansen Petersen, wife Elise Momsen, and five children settled in Bella Prairie and Hebron. Catharina, who married her cousin Hans, left Nebraska about 1889 for Chicago and Milwaukee. Her younger brother Andrew settled in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Hans Peter Petersen 1844-1853 Medelby	Died in childhood	No emigration	Death record 11 Feb 1853 (PDF)	Details Hans Peter Petersen, born in 1844, was the first child of Peter Hansen Petersen and Elise Momsen. He was born in Weesbyefeld and died at the age of nine in Medelby, Schleswig-Holstein, before any of the family emigrated.
Emil Jacob Petersen 1846-1894 Glückstadt	Catharina Dorothea Eck	No emigration	Death record 20 Mar 1894	Details Emil Jacob Petersen married Catharina Dorothea Eck in Leck Parish in 1876. No children from this marriage have been recorded. Emil died in 1894 in Glückstadt after drowning in a canal.
Helena Maria Petersen 1848-1922 Leck	Fritz Burmeister	No emigration	Death record 20 Apr 1922	Details Helena Marie Petersen was the mother of Matthias Peter Petersen, born in 1871. With her husband Fritz Burmeister she ran a guest house, the Burmeister Inn, in Sillerup. Fritz died in 1902, Helena in 1922. Matthias remained in Schleswig.

Petersen 1850 Karlum-1886 Leck	Ingeborg Catharina Jensen	No emigration	Death record 1886	Details Christian Nicolai Petersen and his wife Ingeborg Catharina Jensen had four children in Leck. A daughter, Lina Christina, born in 1879, emigrated to Spokane, Washington in 1906 and married Max Carl Passler. See the record below for more information.

Hans Peter Petersen 1854-? Nebraska	Christine Johannsen Children Peter & Lina	1883 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Sep 1883	Details Hans Peter Petersen, son of Peter Hansen Petersen and Elise Momsen, married Christine Margarethe Johannsen in Leck in 1878 and they had two children, Peter (1878) and Lina (1880). The family emigrated to Nebraska in 1883 and lived in Hebron, where Hans' parents had lived.
Peter Edlef Petersen 1857-1933 Omaha NE	Meriera Thompson	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Nov 1878	Details Born Peter Edlef, he adopted the name Alfred in Omaha, Nebraska where he and his wife Meriea Thompsen settled. Alfred was a landscaper. He and Meriea had four children.
Peter Hansen Petersen 1860-1945 Mason City NE	Anna Christina Johansen	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Nov 1878	Details Peter Hansen Petersen emigrated with his parents, Peter Hansen Petersen and Elise Momsen. In Nebraska he married Anna Catharina Johansen and worked as a farmer in Mason City, raising nine children with his wife. Peter died in 1945.
Catharina Petersen 1862-1944 Chicago IL	Hans P. Petersen	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Nov 1878	Details Catharina Maria Petersen married Cher first cousin (son of Lorenz P. Petersen and Margarethe "Magretta" Petersen) three weeks after she emigrated to Nebraska with her family. She and husband Hans Petersen farmed in Belle Prairie and Hebron, then in 1889 moved to Chicago and later to Brookfield, Wisconsin. She and Hans had eleven children. When Hans died in 1905 Catharina moved backj to Chicago and married Thomas Mikkelsen. Catherine died in 1944 in Chicago.
Andrew Petersen 1867-1918 Kenosha WI	Karen Marie Johansen	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Nov 1878	Details Andreas/Andrew Petersen married Karen Marie Johansen in York, Nebraska in 1889 and relocated to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he was a teamster. He and Karen Marie had six children before Andrew's death in 1918. Andrew was a twin of Ludwig/Louis, and Andrew's wife was a sister of older brother Peter Hansen Petersen's wife Anna Johansen.
Ludwig/Louis Petersen 1867-1933 Omaha NE	Maria Cavallin	1878 to Nebraska	Hamburg manifest Nov 1878	Details Ludwig or Louis Petersen married Marie Cavallin in Iowa in 1890. They settled in Omaha where Louis worked as a saloon keeper and confectioner. They had one daughter, Wilhelmina Elisabeth. Louis, a twin of Andrew, died in 1933 in Omaha.

Petersen 1875-1957 Erie, Ohio	Georg Petersen's daughter Married Jan Eschels in Ohio	1889-1891 to Ohio	1900 U.S. federal census	Details Anna Catharina Christina Petersen, born in Flensburg in 1875, was the daughter of Georg Petersen (son of Hans Peter Petersen and Ellen Jürgensen) and Christine Botille Gÿldenzoph. She emigrated to Erie, Sandusky County, Ohio between 1889-1891 and married Jan (John) Martin Eschels in 1895. She and Jan had three children. Anna died in 1957.
Lina Chr. Petersen 1879-1963 Spokane WA	Chr. N. Petersen's daughter Married Max Passler	1906 to Spokane	1906 passenger manifest	Details Lina Christina Petersen was the daughter of Christian Nicolai Petersen and his wife Ingeborg Jensen. She emigrated to Spokane, Washington in 1906 with three other companions from the Leckfeld area, headed for the home of a family friend, Julius Johnson. Lina Christina married Max Carl Passler in 1907. They had three children. Lina died in 1963 in Spokane.
